Uproar Over Injustice In Matatu Industry As Senior Government Official’s Son Accused Of Breaking Laws With Impunity

The Matatu Crew Welfare Association has raised serious concerns about discrimination within the matatu industry.

They allege that certain matatus, owned by the son of a prominent high-level government official, are flagrantly violating traffic laws with no repercussions.

The controversy centers on two matatus operating on the Ngong – Nairobi route.

According to reports, these vehicles blatantly break traffic rules in broad daylight, right in front of traffic police officers.

Wilfred Bosire, the association’s chairman, expressed his frustration, highlighting that these matatus are not only operating without proper documentation but are also engaging in reckless behavior on the roads.

“Kuna magari watu wanasema ni za serikali, gari haina at jina ya Sacco…gari inakuja hapa inareverse kwa roundabout, askari wanaangalia tu,” said Bosire.

He pointed out that these vehicles lack essential Public Service Vehicle (PSV) certification, insurance, and do not belong to any recognized Sacco.

Additionally, they are operating without the required Road Service Licenses (RSL).

Bosire’s concerns reflect a broader sentiment of frustration and helplessness among the matatu operators.

“Askari wa trafiki, hata Regional Commander, hawaeziongelea hizo magari, hii ni nchi gani tunaishi? People are scared, they can’t speak, but some of us must speak whether we’re going to be abducted or not. We want fairness in doing business,” he added, calling for justice and fairness in the industry.

The alleged impunity of these matatus has sparked outrage among other matatu operators who feel that they are being unfairly targeted and discriminated against.

The Matatu Crew Welfare Association is demanding that the authorities take immediate action to address these violations and ensure that all matatus, regardless of ownership, adhere to the same regulations.

The situation has also raised questions about the enforcement of traffic laws and the influence of high-level government officials in protecting their interests at the expense of ordinary citizens.

The association’s call for action highlights the need for transparency and accountability in the enforcement of traffic regulations and the operation of public transport vehicles.

It remains to be seen how the authorities will respond to these serious allegations and what measures will be taken to ensure a fair and just transport system for all operators.

The Matatu Crew Welfare Association is determined to keep pushing for change, insisting that no one should be above the law, regardless of their connections or status.
