A man linked to an alleged land fraud case in Gilgil, Nakuru County, has been arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Headquarters’ Land Fraud Investigations Unit.
The suspect, identified as Joseph Njuguna Kamau, is accused of being involved in the fraudulent transfer of a parcel of land located in Kikopey.
Authorities say the arrest follows investigations into a complaint filed by a woman who claimed to be the rightful owner of the property.
According to investigators, the complainant had legally acquired the land, which measures about 0.405 hectares, from a seller associated with Mawingu Gwikana Gwika Women Self Help Group Enterprises.
She believed she had completed the purchase process properly and was the legitimate owner of the parcel.
However, problems emerged when she was later evicted from the land.
The incident prompted her to report the matter to authorities, leading to investigations by the DCI’s specialized land fraud unit.
Detectives examined ownership records and other documents related to the property. Their investigations established that the parcel had allegedly been transferred and sold to another buyer without the complainant’s knowledge.
The second buyer is said to have been unaware of the alleged fraud and is also considered a victim in the matter.Investigators further established that Kamau was serving as the company secretary of Mawingu Gwikana Gwika Women Self Help Group Enterprises at the time the disputed transactions took place.
Authorities believe he played a key role in the alleged fraudulent sale of the property.
After gathering evidence and completing investigations, detectives forwarded the case file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for review.
Following an assessment of the evidence presented, the ODPP approved charges against the suspect.
Kamau is expected to face charges of Conspiracy to Defraud and Obtaining Registration by False Pretences.
These charges relate to the alleged unlawful transfer and registration of the land.
Following the approval of the charges, detectives tracked the suspect to the Miharati area, where he was arrested. He was later escorted to Naivasha Police Station for processing.
Police said the suspect remains in custody as legal procedures continue. He is expected to be arraigned before the Naivasha Law Courts, where he will answer to the charges approved by the prosecution.
