Defamation claims put Velvin Wafula on police radar as online feud turns ugly

The story surrounding Velvin “Veylar” Wafula, also known as Vee, has now gone beyond private conflict and moved into the legal space, as police in Nairobi investigate her for alleged online harassment and defamation against an estranged former partner.

What began as a personal relationship that stretched back to 2020 has turned into a public dispute, drawing attention to how quickly private matters can spill over into the digital space with serious consequences.

The complainant says the pair had an on-and-off relationship which reignited in 2023. At the time, he claims he did not know Vee had shifted into adult-oriented content creation and monetized her interactions through online platforms.

While she initially downplayed the matter, she later admitted that this work was her primary source of income.

The situation soon became financially entangled when she requested to use his PayPal account, citing stability and higher withdrawal limits compared to hers.

They agreed on a revenue-sharing arrangement where she would retain 70 percent and he would get 30 percent. Although this arrangement worked for a few months, discomfort grew, especially for the man, who struggled with the nature of content linked to his account.

He explained that he only agreed to help her because she assured him the arrangement was temporary.

Over time, however, the reality of the content made him uneasy, and by the fourth month, he decided to withdraw from both the financial arrangement and their relationship.

It was after this separation that he claims Vee began a campaign of online harassment. Posts allegedly made by her included damaging accusations, most notably branding him a pedophile, which he insists is not only false but extremely harmful.

He says she also threatened to expose private photos if he did not remain silent. These claims led him to file a formal complaint with police, who have since confirmed that investigations are ongoing.

The case highlights how power dynamics on social media can be misused, particularly when one party has a public following while the other does not.

Allegations, whether true or false, spread rapidly online, leaving the accused with limited ways to defend themselves.

For Vee, who thrives on visibility and engagement as part of her online brand, this controversy may keep her in the spotlight but could also lead to legal consequences if the accusations against her are proven.

The situation also raises broader concerns about the rise of digital harassment and defamation, especially when disputes between partners or friends play out publicly.

With algorithms amplifying sensational content, individuals risk reputational destruction long before any formal process can provide clarity.

The police report now places this matter within a legal framework, underlining that online defamation and harassment are not beyond the reach of law.
