Police in Marsabit County have arrested six people after recovering government relief food that is suspected to have been diverted from its intended beneficiaries. Authorities also detained a lorry believed to have been used to transport the food supplies.

According to a police report recorded under OB No. 25/16/7/2026 at around 4:30 p.m., security officers launched an operation after receiving information from members of the public about suspicious activities at a homestead in Majengo Sub-Location, approximately six kilometres north of Marsabit Police Station.
The operation was carried out by the Marsabit Central Sub-County security team under the leadership of the Deputy County Commissioner.
Officers raided the homestead, which belongs to Jela Elema, a retired Assistant Education Officer, and recovered a large quantity of food branded as Government of Kenya relief supplies.
During the search, officers found 74 bags of rice and 10 bags of beans, each weighing 50 kilograms.
They also recovered 135 empty relief food bags and 84 empty rice bags from various brands. Investigators believe the recovered items could provide important evidence as they seek to establish how the food ended up at the location.
Police further reported that a white Isuzu NPR lorry, registration number KCF 123R, was found inside the compound.
The vehicle was being driven by Hassan Guyo Mohamed and was allegedly loaded with some of the exhibits recovered during the operation.
Crime scene investigators from the County Crime Scene Investigation team documented the area before the food and the vehicle were transported to Marsabit Police Station for further examination and safe custody.
Investigators later conducted verification at the Marsabit Cereal Board Depot. Records reportedly showed that the recovered supplies had been delivered through waybill number DL-1394413 and collected on July 16, 2026, by Moses M. Oruma, the Deputy County Commissioner of Sagante Jaldesa Sub-County.
The food was intended for distribution to residents of Kachacha Sub-Location as part of a government relief programme.
The six people arrested in connection with the case are Sanke Abudo, Chame Yasin Orge, Kedir Ibrahim Yacho, Guyo Jala Elama, Hassan Guyo Mohamed and Sola Dida Huri.
They remain in police custody as investigations continue.
The case is being handled by the Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer in Marsabit Central, who is leading efforts to determine how the relief food was allegedly diverted and whether more people were involved.
