Agnes Kagure on the spot over Spokesman’s threats to kill Ruto, Sakaja

Agnes Kagure has come under sharp criticism after a spokesman linked to her political camp allegedly made threats against President William Ruto and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja in videos circulating online.

The remarks have placed the Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant and Kenya Patriots Party (KPP) leader at the center of controversy as pressure grows for her team to address the statements.

The videos show Kagure alongside supporters during political engagements linked to the 2027 Nairobi governor race.

In one clip, Kagure appears with three men as they chant “KPP Power” and speak passionately about changing Nairobi’s leadership. The group makes strong political remarks while raising fists and calling for support ahead of the next elections.

The controversy began after the spokesman allegedly made remarks threatening to “kill” or aggressively deal with President Ruto and Governor Sakaja. The comments quickly sparked reactions online, with many Kenyans condemning the use of threatening language in politics.

Critics argued that political competition should focus on ideas and leadership instead of intimidation or extreme statements.

Kagure’s supporters have continued attacking Sakaja’s leadership over issues affecting Nairobi residents, including poor services, county management, and development challenges. Kagure herself has consistently presented her campaign as one focused on improving the city, creating jobs, and offering better leadership ahead of the 2027 elections.

Even though strong political language is common in Kenya, analysts say direct threats against national and county leaders can attract legal attention and damage a campaign’s image.

So far, Kagure’s camp has not issued a detailed response specifically addressing the alleged threats, leaving many waiting to hear whether the party will distance itself from the remarks.

The latest controversy has shifted attention away from policy discussions and placed focus on the conduct and tone of political campaigns as the country slowly enters another competitive election season.
