Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, on January 10, vowed to take action against individuals using social media to threaten or demean others, terming the behavior unacceptable.
Speaking during the launch of Turbo Sub-county offices alongside President William Ruto, Murkomen assured that the government would charge those responsible for sharing offensive content, especially targeting the country’s leadership.
“We must ensure Kenyans live in an orderly society. Those using social media to spread threats or distasteful images will face the law,” Murkomen stated.
He urged parents, church leaders, and politicians to condemn such acts, emphasizing the societal harm they cause.
Highlighting cases of disturbing images depicting Ruto in a coffin, he warned of the psychological impact on victims.
President Ruto, addressing the issue, accused some politicians of funding youths to create defamatory content.
He urged young people to reject such inducements, stressing that this behavior could harm families and the nation.
“Today, it’s leaders in coffins; tomorrow, it will be your family,” Ruto cautioned, emphasizing the need for accountability and respect in society.
