KMPDU Sec Gen Davji Atellah Denies Calling Off “Occupy MOH” Protests; Claims Union’s Social Media Account Hacked

Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) faced a storm of controversy following a controversial tweet from their official social media handle.

Secretary General Davji Bhimji Atellah swiftly responded to the uproar, alleging that the union’s Twitter account had been maliciously compromised.

The tweet in question, posted earlier today, erroneously announced the suspension of planned protests scheduled to take place at the Ministry of Health Headquarters in Nairobi.

Outraged Kenyans and union members alike reacted swiftly, prompting the KMPDU to delete the post shortly after it went live.

In a press briefing held this afternoon, Atellah vehemently denied authorizing the tweet, emphasizing that the union remains steadfast in its commitment to pursuing the planned strike action.

“Reports circulating regarding the suspension of #OccupyMoH are entirely false. Our social media account was breached, and we are actively working to regain control and rectify the misinformation,” stated Atellah.

Concerns over leadership unity within the KMPDU have surfaced in the wake of the incident, with no official clarification issued following the deletion of the controversial tweet.

The planned protests, aimed at advocating for the placement and remuneration of medical interns in accordance with existing agreements, continue to be a focal point of contention.

Healthcare workers across the country expressed frustration over the perceived lack of transparency and unity within the union’s leadership.

The demand for the dismissal or resignation of Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha, based on allegations of poor performance, adds further complexity to the unfolding situation.

As the KMPDU works to regain control of its compromised social media presence, uncertainties persist regarding the union’s stance on imminent protests and the stability of its leadership moving forward.
