Motorists travelling along Thika Road late at night are growing worried about a rise in dangerous attacks.
The areas around Juja Highpoint, Githurai and Kimbo have become especially concerning.
According to recent reports, groups of thugs are targeting vehicles after dark by placing large stones right in the middle of the highway.
In some cases they stand on the road and throw stones directly at passing cars and trucks.
These actions put drivers and passengers at serious risk. A sudden stone in the path of a vehicle travelling at speed can force the driver to swerve sharply, leading to loss of control, collisions or even rollovers. Stones thrown at windscreens can shatter glass and cause injuries.
The problem appears most common in the quieter hours of the night when traffic is lighter and police presence may be reduced.
Many people who use this busy road every day say the situation has become frightening. Thika Road links Nairobi with towns further north and carries heavy traffic of private cars, matatus and commercial lorries.
When drivers feel unsafe on such an important route, it affects not only their personal security but also the movement of goods and people across the region.
Some residents recall similar incidents from years ago. One person shared that an attack of this kind nearly cost lives as far back as 2015. The fact that the same tactics are still being used shows that the problem has not gone away.
Without stronger action, the pattern may continue or even grow worse.
Local authorities and security agencies have been urged to increase patrols along the affected stretches of the road, especially after sunset. Better street lighting, more frequent police checks and quicker response to reports from motorists could help deter the attackers. Drivers are also advised to stay alert, reduce speed in known danger zones and report any suspicious activity immediately.
