The walkout that has cemented claims of Gloria Orwoba being Ruto’s mole

Gloria Orwoba has once again found herself at the center of political debate after a dramatic incident during a gathering of opposition leaders raised fresh questions about where her loyalties lie.

The nominated senator, who has in recent months attracted both support and criticism from different political camps, was openly labeled by some leaders as a political mole working for President William Ruto within opposition circles.

The incident was captured on video and later shared online, showing a tense atmosphere during a press briefing.

As discussions continued, several leaders reportedly chose to distance themselves from Orwoba, with some openly accusing her of serving the interests of the government while presenting herself as part of the opposition.

The accusations are not entirely new. For months, political observers and some opposition supporters have questioned Orwoba’s relationship with President Ruto and his administration.

Although she has often spoken on issues affecting ordinary Kenyans and has occasionally criticized government policies, some of her political positions have led critics to believe that she remains closely aligned with the President.

The label of a “mole” carries serious political meaning. In Kenya’s political environment, it is often used to describe an individual who is believed to be working within one political group while secretly advancing the interests of another.

Those making the allegations against Orwoba believe she has maintained links with the government despite efforts to position herself alongside opposition figures.

The latest confrontation appears to reflect growing mistrust among some opposition leaders.

Their concern is not necessarily about individual policy disagreements but about whether sensitive political discussions and strategies can remain confidential when there are doubts about a member’s political allegiance.

Orwoba’s political journey has been unique.

She first gained national attention through her advocacy on issues affecting women and girls, particularly menstrual health.

Her outspoken style earned her recognition across the country and helped build her public profile. However, as national politics became increasingly polarized, her relationship with both government and opposition figures became a subject of constant discussion.

The key question being raised by her critics is whether she is genuinely part of the opposition movement or whether she is advancing President Ruto’s interests from within.

That debate continues to shape perceptions of her political future.
