The Kenya Red Cross has recorded 31 missing-person cases after an 18-storey building collapsed along 9th Street in Eastleigh, Nairobi. Two of those reported missing have since been reunited with their families.
Disaster Officer Vincent Ochieng said the organisation is carrying out contact tracing to confirm the reports.
He noted that some workers may have left the site before the structure came down, which could affect the accuracy of the numbers.
The Red Cross has also set up a disaster operations centre to offer psychosocial support and counselling to the families affected by the incident.
The collapse has left many residents anxious as they wait for updates on those still unaccounted for.
Families and friends continue to gather information through official channels while rescue and recovery efforts remain underway.
Officials have urged the public to share any relevant details that could help verify the status of missing persons.
Local authorities and emergency teams are coordinating the response on the ground. The focus remains on confirming the welfare of everyone who was at the site and providing necessary assistance to those impacted.
The Red Cross continues to work with other agencies to support the community during this difficult time.
Updates from the disaster operations centre are expected as more information becomes available.
Families seeking information have been directed to the centre for assistance and counselling services.
