Kitui County MCA Cyrus Kisavi Musyoka arrested in Nairobi CBD over alleged phone thefts

Cyrus Kisavi Musyoka, the sitting Member of the County Assembly (MCA) for Ikanga/Kyatune Ward in Kitui County, has been arrested in connection with a series of reported mobile phone thefts in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD).

Detectives from Kamukunji Police Station arrested Musyoka along Mfangano Street after receiving intelligence linking him to three separate phone theft incidents reported in August and September 2026.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), detectives had been investigating the reported incidents before identifying the MCA as a suspect. CCTV footage played a key role in the investigations, helping detectives identify him in connection with the reported thefts.

The detectives eventually moved in and arrested him in the Nairobi CBD as investigations into the incidents continued. His arrest marks a major development in the cases, which involve reports of mobile phone theft in one of the capital’s busiest commercial areas.

The DCI did not provide further details about the circumstances surrounding each of the three incidents or the identities of the people who reported losing their phones. However, the investigations had placed Musyoka on the detectives’ radar before his arrest.

The arrest has also brought renewed attention to a separate criminal case in which the MCA is wanted for failing to appear in court.

According to the DCI, Musyoka has an outstanding warrant of arrest in Criminal Case No. 112/303/2024. The warrant relates to a case at the Makadara Law Courts, where he had previously been charged with stealing.

Detectives said the MCA had been released on bond in that case but failed to attend court as required, leading to the outstanding warrant.

His latest arrest therefore places him at the centre of both the ongoing investigations into the reported phone thefts and the separate court matter arising from the earlier stealing charge.

The DCI said Musyoka was being held in custody as officers processed him ahead of his arraignment. Further court proceedings are expected to address the matters facing him.

The arrest comes as police continue to investigate criminal activities reported in Nairobi’s CBD, where large numbers of people visit daily to shop, work and conduct business. Mobile phone theft remains a concern for members of the public, particularly in crowded streets and commercial areas where thieves can take advantage of busy surroundings.

The DCI maintained that public officials and other individuals must answer to the law regardless of their positions in society.

The agency said detectives would continue following leads and presenting suspects before the courts to respond to criminal charges.
