INJECT party leader Morara Kebaso has accused Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja of being involved in a major corruption scandal worth 2.2 billion shillings.
According to Kebaso, the money was meant to compensate people under the Dupoto settlement scheme, but they never received it because of fraud.
He claims that Sakaja, together with Nixon Korir, the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Lands, played a key role in this scandal. Kebaso alleges that Sakaja and Korir gave the land to a fake company.
This company then sold the land back to the government through the Kenya Railways Corporation. In the end, public money was lost in a fraudulent deal.
What makes the case even more suspicious is that the money was withdrawn just a day before Christmas last year. Kebaso insists that he spoke about this issue before, but no one listened.
He explained that Dupoto is located off ICD Road in Embakasi, near the Nairobi National Park. According to him, the government, through Kenya Railways Corporation, ended up buying its own land because of the fraudulent deal.
He further revealed that the process started with Sakaja and Korir allocating the land to a non-existent company, after which a title deed was issued.
The fake company then sold the land back to the government.Kebaso claims that the money involved in the scandal might be even more than 2.2 billion shillings.
He says the funds were moved from one account to another before being withdrawn. He also insists that he saw this happening but was ignored when he tried to warn people. If these claims are true, it would be a serious case of corruption involving top government officials.

Many Nairobi residents have already been complaining about mismanagement in the county, and this new scandal raises more concerns. The people who were supposed to be compensated are still waiting for their money, while those responsible for the fraud continue with their businesses as usual.
Sakaja has not yet responded to these allegations, and it remains to be seen whether any investigations will be conducted.
Meanwhile, Kebaso has promised to keep pushing for the truth to come out, saying that Nairobians deserve better leadership.
