Four suspects have appeared before the Milimani Law Courts and been charged in connection with the murder of Dr. Victoria Thunya Mutiso.
The suspects are Angela Mulwa, Rose Mbithe Mulwa, also known as Rose Mbithe Ndetei, Chris Mulwa and Elijah Kibelion Kimoi.
They appeared before Justice Kanyi Kimondo, where the murder charge was read to them.
However, the four did not take a plea because the court only read the information contained in the charge.
They are expected to formally respond to the allegations at a later stage after the necessary procedures have been completed.
Justice Kimondo directed that the suspects undergo a mental assessment before they are presented before Justice Alexander Muteti.
It is before Justice Muteti that they are expected to take a plea and formally answer to the murder charge facing them.
The court also directed that Elijah Kibelion Kimoi be provided with legal representation as the case proceeds.
The four suspects are accused of jointly murdering Dr. Mutiso on July 29, 2026, at about 9:30 a.m. along Mawensi Road in Kilimani, Nairobi County.
According to the prosecution, the suspects allegedly acted together with other people who have not yet been brought before the court. The prosecution will be expected to present evidence linking the accused persons to the alleged offence as the case progresses.
The suspects are facing a murder charge under Section 203 as read with Section 204 of the Penal Code.
The case is now expected to move to the next stage after the completion of the mental assessments. The assessments will help the court determine whether the suspects are fit to participate in the proceedings and formally respond to the allegations against them.
The appearance marks the beginning of the formal court process in a case that has brought the death of Dr. Mutiso before the justice system.
The suspects remain accused persons at this stage, and the allegations against them will have to be proved in court.
Further directions are expected once the mental assessment process is completed and the four are presented before Justice Muteti for plea taking.
