CS John Mbadi Opens Up About Weight Loss Journey Amid Treasury Challenges

Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi recently addressed public speculation surrounding his noticeable weight loss, assuring Kenyans that his slimmer physique was a deliberate effort rather than a result of job-related stress or health problems.

Speaking before the Senate on October 2, Mbadi confirmed that he had taken intentional steps to improve his fitness and health, and his weight loss was part of this personal commitment.

The CS took the opportunity to address concerns raised by the public and dispelled any rumors linking his weight loss to the demanding nature of his role.

“There have been discussions about my weight loss. I advise those aging to prioritize fitness for better health. I’ve consciously been shedding pounds, and I will persist with it. It has nothing to do with stress or pressure,” Mbadi explained.

Acknowledging the pressures of his role at the helm of the National Treasury, Mbadi made it clear that he was not overwhelmed by the demands of the position.

He reassured the public and the Senate that he remains focused on fulfilling his responsibilities and is well-prepared to handle the pressures that come with managing the country’s finances.

“Yes, there is pressure at the Treasury, but I am prepared for it and will continue to perform my duties,” Mbadi stated in his address to the Senate.

This explanation came in response to a lighthearted comment from Narok Senator Ledama Olekina, who, noticing Mbadi’s weight loss, humorously offered him a goat as a token to help him gain back some weight.

“I’ve noticed that the Treasury CS has lost weight. I’m offering him a goat to help him put on a little,” Senator Olekina joked, reflecting the senator’s good-natured concern for Mbadi’s well-being.

Beyond his personal health, Mbadi also provided updates on several important matters regarding the Treasury’s operations.

He pledged to improve transparency within the ministry, particularly concerning tax proposals, to avoid the kind of public backlash seen with the Finance Bill 2024.

Mbadi emphasized the need for the public to better understand the ministry’s decisions and assured that future proposals would be communicated more clearly to prevent protests and misunderstandings.

Additionally, the Treasury is currently working on a unified payroll system aimed at identifying and eliminating ghost workers from government agencies.

This initiative is part of a broader push for financial accountability and efficiency within government operations.

Mbadi’s remarks demonstrated his readiness to lead the Treasury through challenging times while maintaining a strong personal commitment to health and fitness.

His statements provided reassurance to both the public and the Senate, affirming that he remains dedicated to his duties and is in good health.
