President Ruto Breaks Silence After Conveying Today’s Cabinet Meeting As He Issues The Following Urgent Message To Officers Who Harmed Protesters

President William Ruto vowed on Thursday to take decisive action against police officers who violated the law by harming peaceful protestors during recent demonstrations.

In a cabinet dispatch, the Head of State disclosed that legal measures would be taken against the officers found culpable of harming demonstrators.

He noted that the cabinet had already approved legal procedures against these officers and that the mandated institutions had been informed.

“Any officers who may have acted outside the confines of the law will be dealt with through legal procedures and by the institutions mandated to do so,” read part of the cabinet dispatch.

President Ruto, chairing a cabinet meeting at State House in Nairobi on July 4, 2024, commended the majority of security officers who acted professionally in difficult circumstances.

He noted that security agencies had stabilized the recent violent situation in the country and were continuing to monitor developments.

The Cabinet also called for action against those who committed crimes of arson, looting, and robbery, asserting that such atrocities must not go unpunished.

In the dispatch, the Head of State disclosed that peaceful Gen Z protests were infiltrated by criminals who robbed and destroyed both public and private property.

The president noted that the violent protests were further instigated and fueled by a section of politicians in the country.

According to Ruto, the unrest forced the government to heighten security operations by deploying the military and other special security agencies.

“These groups have, in the past two weeks, reigned terror on the people of Kenya in cities, towns, and other urban areas,” read part of the cabinet dispatch.

“This has resulted in loss of life, and destruction of national and county government buildings, infrastructure, vehicles, homes, and businesses.”
