“I will not allow Finance Bills protests in My County” Vocal Governor Warns Youth Against Protests

Turkana County Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai made a definitive statement on Monday against the anti-finance bill protests currently occurring in various parts of Kenya.

Addressing a political crowd, Governor Lomorukai made it clear that he would not permit Finance Bill protests within Turkana County.

In his speech, the governor strongly condemned the ongoing demonstrations, arguing that they disrupt peace and security across the country.

He emphasized that these protests are orchestrated by individuals with malicious intentions aimed at disrupting other people’s businesses.

A video shared by Nation Africa on Monday, June 24, captures Lomorukai’s assertion that the protests are harmful to the nation’s stability and economy.

Lomorukai highlighted the importance of maintaining a peaceful environment in towns like Lodwar, which hosts citizens from various regions.

He stressed that these citizens deserve protection and a conducive atmosphere to conduct their daily activities without the interference and chaos brought about by protests.

While he took a strong stance against the protests, the governor did not explicitly express his support for the national budget for the fiscal year 2024/25.

Instead, he urged the people of Turkana to evaluate his performance based on the county’s budget, which he claims is tailored to the development and welfare of the youth.

Governor Lomorukai defended the county budget, noting that it was unanimously passed by the Members of the County Assembly and is now being implemented to benefit all residents of Turkana, including Boda Boda riders and small enterprise owners.

He emphasized that the county budget is designed to address the specific needs and promote the prosperity of Turkana’s diverse population.

His comments were in response to the ongoing national protests against the Finance Bill 2024, which have sparked disorder and commotion in various parts of Kenya, including Nairobi, Kisumu, Eldoret, and Mombasa.

Protesters argue that the bill is exploitative and unfair to struggling Kenyans, leading to widespread unrest.

As protests are expected to continue, the governor’s firm stance reflects a broader debate within the country about the implications of the Finance Bill 2024 and the appropriate ways to address public grievances.

Governor Lomorukai’s emphasis on local governance and tailored solutions for Turkana highlights a significant aspect of this debate, focusing on regional stability and development amid national unrest.
