Bata Kenya Managing Director Abbas Shirazi has reportedly fled the country following a fatal road accident in Limuru that claimed the life of a 57-year-old pedestrian.
The accident happened on September 5, 2026, at around 7:50 p.m. in the Redhill area along the Kabuku-Ndenderu road.
A police report said Shirazi, 53, was driving a Toyota Prado, registration number KDU 240K, when the vehicle hit the pedestrian.
The deceased was identified as John Mbai Muinu, aged 57. According to the police account, the Prado was travelling from Kabuku towards Ndenderu when it struck Muinu as he attempted to cross the road from the right side to the left, facing the direction of Ndenderu.
Muinu sustained serious head injuries and multiple fractures in the crash. He died at the scene before he could be taken to hospital for treatment.
Police officers who arrived at the scene documented the circumstances of the accident and examined the vehicle involved.
The Prado had extensive damage to its front section and body, while its windscreen was also shattered following the impact.
The vehicle was later escorted to a police station and detained for inspection as investigations continued.
Such inspections are normally important in fatal crash investigations as officers seek to establish the condition of the vehicle and compare it with evidence gathered at the scene.
Muinu’s body was taken to Tigoni Level IV Hospital mortuary, where it was preserved pending an autopsy. The examination is expected to help establish the medical cause of death.
The fatal crash has since attracted wider attention following reports that Shirazi left Kenya after the incident. His reported departure has raised questions about the next steps in the investigation and whether he will return to face the authorities as inquiries continue.
