Kilimani residents are still trying to understand how a normal night turned into a tragedy that shocked the entire country.
The death of 25-year-old Festus Oromo has raised painful questions, and detectives are now working around the clock to explain what happened inside room B1406 during his final moments.
What is clear so far is that the young man’s last hours were filled with movement, confusion, and a confrontation that may have led to his fall from the 14th floor.
Festus arrived at the Luxe Apartments on November 28 looking relaxed. CCTV footage shows him checking into the Airbnb without any problems.
He walked calmly to room B1406, and nothing in his behavior suggested fear or conflict. Later that afternoon, a delivery rider brought a package to his door before leaving quickly.
The rest of the evening appeared uneventful, at least from the footage captured.
Things began to change shortly after 1am. A man identified as Patrick stepped out of the apartment at 1:06am, lingered briefly in the hallway, and then went back inside. Minutes later, he reappeared, this time with Festus beside him.
The two men looked friendly and relaxed. They walked shoulder-to-shoulder, with Patrick holding a drink and carrying a tan-brown bag. After a short walk, they returned to the unit still in good spirits. Nothing in their movements hinted at trouble.
Patrick later left the apartment again, heading toward the lift in casual clothes. Detectives say this moment is key because it marks the last time all three individuals were calm before everything changed.
When Festus returned alone around 1:15am, the camera recorded him knocking on the door, stepping briefly toward the lift, and then returning to enter the apartment.
It is inside that doorway where things took a sudden and troubling turn. CCTV captured a physical struggle between Festus and a woman inside the Airbnb.
The door closed quickly, hiding whatever took place afterward. Investigators now believe this confrontation is the trigger point that led to the chaos and ultimately the fatal fall.
What caused the fight, what was said, and what happened inside the room remains uncertain, but detectives consider this moment the most important piece of the puzzle.Only the parking lot cameras show what happened next.
At around 1:20am, Festus’s body fell from the 14th floor and landed on the roof of a parked car. The loud impact startled residents, who rushed outside without knowing that a violent struggle had taken place moments earlier.
Paramedics arrived fast, but Festus was already dead.
Police sealed off the area immediately and began going through every second of CCTV footage. Their focus is now on the woman seen fighting with Festus and the earlier movements of Patrick, both of whom are central to the ongoing homicide investigation.
Detectives are convinced that the events inside room B1406 hold the answers to how a simple night in an Airbnb ended as one of Kilimani’s most disturbing tragedies.
