Three suspected gang members arrested in Mau Narok over arson and property damage

Police have arrested three men suspected of belonging to a criminal gang linked to a series of arson attacks, property damage and other criminal activities in Mau Narok, Njoro Sub-County, Nakuru County.

The suspects, identified as Simon Thiru, Hassan Mwangi Wambura and Samson Muthee Wambui, were arrested during an operation targeting a suspected gang hideout in Mau Narok.

The operation followed reports of criminal activities that have raised concerns among residents and business owners in the area.

According to the National Police Service, the suspects are believed to be linked to a group accused of carrying out attacks on business premises. Police said the gang members were reportedly operating under the cover of boda boda services while engaging in criminal activities.

The reported incidents of arson and malicious damage to property have raised security concerns in the area, particularly among traders whose businesses have been targeted. The attacks have also prompted police to step up efforts to identify and arrest those suspected of being behind the incidents.

Police further reported that the suspects had threatened to attack Mau Narok Police Station if any of their members were arrested over the reported criminal activities.

The threat has added to concerns over the group’s activities and its alleged willingness to confront law enforcement officers.

The National Police Service said officers were determined to address the reported criminal activities and prevent further incidents that could endanger residents and damage property.

The three suspects remain in police custody as officers complete the necessary processing ahead of their expected arraignment in court.

Detectives are also pursuing additional leads as they seek to identify and arrest other people suspected of involvement in the gang’s activities.

Police have not disclosed further details about the alleged attacks or the extent of the damage caused to the affected business premises.

The investigation is expected to establish the roles of the arrested suspects and determine whether other individuals were involved.

The arrests form part of efforts by security agencies to tackle criminal gangs and improve safety in areas affected by reports of violence and property destruction.

The National Police Service reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property, adding that those found responsible for criminal activities would be dealt with according to the law.

The suspects are yet to face trial, and the allegations against them will be subject to the court process.

Detectives are expected to continue with investigations as police work to establish the full extent of the reported criminal activities in Mau Narok and bring other suspects still at large before the law.
