Public fury grows over Governor Abdi Guyo’s neglect and defiance of court orders

Isiolo town is drowning in garbage, and Governor Abdi Guyo is at the center of growing public anger over the crisis. What was once a manageable problem has now exploded into a full-blown health and environmental disaster.

Streets are filled with piles of waste, plastic bags, food remains, and foul-smelling garbage left unattended for days. The situation has turned the town into a dumping ground, despite the county government’s promises of a cleaner and healthier environment.

A recent post by Cyprian NyaKundi on X laid it bare for the world to see, with a video showing garbage strewn all over a busy public space and the caption, “Garbage everywhere. Kindly help us expose this shame. The county has completely failed.”

That statement reflects the voice of frustrated residents who feel completely abandoned by a governor they accuse of being both incompetent and absent.

While the garbage piles up, Governor Guyo appears to be missing in action. Several X users reacted to Nyakundi’s post by accusing the governor of spending more time in Nairobi than in Isiolo. According to one post, Guyo only shows up for public functions and leaves residents to suffer in a town choked by filth. Even worse, there are allegations that the governor recently acquired a luxury Range Rover, a clear sign that he has misplaced priorities.

People are asking how a county that cannot manage its waste can afford such luxuries for its top officials. The message from citizens is simple, Governor Guyo is living large while the people live in garbage.

This garbage mess is not an isolated failure. It is part of a bigger pattern of poor leadership and impunity. Governor Guyo has also been accused of openly defying court orders. In previous incidents, he has ignored summons and disrespected court rulings, treating the law as if it does not apply to him.

Such behavior speaks to a deeper issue of lawlessness and arrogance in leadership. It raises serious questions about whether Guyo is fit to hold public office if he cannot obey the same laws he swore to uphold.Even when given the benefit of the doubt, the facts are damning.

The county has failed to provide enough garbage trucks, workers are either demotivated or underpaid, and there are no proper disposal sites. Yet instead of facing the problem head-on, the governor has chosen silence and escapism.

The Isiolo Municipality website talks about “sustainable practices” and “a cleaner municipality,” but those words now look like empty promises. The reality is that garbage is everywhere, and the health of thousands of residents is at risk.

Nyakundi’s decision to expose this shame has once again shown the power of social media in holding leaders accountable. Residents no longer have to suffer in silence. They are calling out leaders who sit in offices and enjoy privileges while ignoring the basic needs of the people.

What Isiolo needs is not another photo-op or empty statement, but real leadership and immediate action. Governor Guyo must take full responsibility for this disaster. The people are watching, and they will not forget.

A leader who cannot clean up his town has no business leading it. If Governor Guyo cannot deliver basic services like garbage collection, then he has no moral authority to remain in office. This is not just about dirt on the streets, it’s about a failure of leadership that continues to put lives at risk every single day.
