Leaked reports place MP Zaheer Jhanda at the center of fatal political violence

Leaked reports have put Nyaribari Chache MP Zaheer Jhanda at the centre of fresh violence in Kisii County. On Friday, goons attacked a Linda Mwananchi political convoy in Keumbu. One person died.

Several others were hurt. Vehicles were damaged. Police have now summoned the MP to record a statement with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations in Kisii.

Vincent Osiemo, also known as Mapindozi, aged 36, lost his life from injuries during the clashes.

His family is in mourning in Gionseri village in Bobasi.

Reports say the attack happened as the convoy moved along the Kisii-Keroka road after rallies.

Stone-throwing youths targeted the group. Opposition leaders have condemned the incident and pointed fingers at those in power for allowing such acts.

Jhanda, who represents Nyaribari Chache under the UDA party, faces questions over his possible link to the events.

Detectives want him to help explain what happened. Several suspects have already been arrested in connection with the violence.

Police statements confirm the MP was summoned to assist with the ongoing probe.

This is not the first time questions have been raised about Jhanda.

Earlier videos showed him giving out cash to residents in his constituency. Some people praised the help. Others criticised it as a way to buy support instead of focusing on real development.

He defended the handouts, saying the money comes from part of his salary. But the latest incident has brought stronger anger.

Leaders like Boni Khalwale have called for his arrest, saying the government must act against goon culture if it wants to be taken seriously.

People in Kisii are tired of repeated political violence. Families lose loved ones. Property is destroyed. Young men are used as tools in fights between rivals.

The death of Osiemo highlights the cost. His relatives and friends now demand justice.

Former Chief Justice Maraga and other opposition figures have spoken out against the attack on the convoy.

Jhanda has not yet made a full public statement on the summons. As a businessman turned politician, he entered parliament in 2022.

His supporters point to projects and help he has given in the area. But critics say his style of politics brings division and danger.

Mobilising groups for clashes instead of solving problems through dialogue only makes things worse for ordinary citizens who want peace and progress.

The DCI investigation will now test how far the links go. Will those behind the goons face real consequences?

Or will it end with a few arrests and no change?

In Kenya, too many times political violence fades from the news without full accountability.
