EACC arrests Noah Kitisia Katei over alleged Kes10,000 bribe

The arrest of a Kajiado County Enforcement Officer has once again brought attention to the daily challenges many Kenyans face when seeking basic public services.

According to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, an officer identified as Mr. Noah Kitisia Katei was taken into custody after he was accused of demanding a bribe from a citizen who simply wanted to continue repair work on a sewage line.

The case has sparked conversation around the continued pressure ordinary people experience when some public officials misuse their authority.

The incident began when the complainant, who had already started working on the sewage line at his place of work, was ordered to stop by the officer. It is alleged that the officer then asked for ten thousand shillings before he could authorise the continuation of the repair.

For the complainant, this demand not only caused an unexpected delay but also created unnecessary worry, especially because the work being carried out was meant to solve a sanitation problem.

Such delays can easily lead to health risks, inconvenience and additional costs.

After the complaint was reported, EACC acted by planning and conducting a sting operation. During the operation, the officer was arrested and immediately taken to the Integrity Centre in Nairobi.

There, he was processed and asked to record a statement as part of the investigation. The Commission later confirmed that he was released on a police bond of Kes20,000 as the investigations continue.

His release on bond does not signify the end of the matter, as further steps will depend on the evidence gathered by investigators.

This arrest has been stated as one of the many actions the Commission is taking to curb bribery in public offices.

EACC has frequently stated that such operations are part of its wider plan to ensure Kenyans receive services without fear, pressure or the need to pay extra money.

Many citizens hope that consistent actions like this will help rebuild trust in public institutions and discourage officers from exploiting their roles.

For residents of Kajiado and other parts of the country, the case serves as a reminder of the importance of reporting any attempts at corruption.

While the issue of bribery remains a major concern across various sectors, every successful operation gives the public renewed confidence that accountability is still possible. The Commission continues to encourage members of the public to speak up so that action can be taken where necessary.
