Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi has revealed his daughter’s unexpected involvement in the recent Gen Z-led nationwide protests against the controversial Finance Bill.
Sudi disclosed that his daughter not only participated in the protests but also contributed KSh 10,000 to the M-Changa fundraiser set up for the victims of the demonstrations.
The protests, which lasted nearly three weeks, resulted in significant casualties, with several lives lost and many youths injured.
In response, an M-Changa account was created to raise funds for medical treatment for the injured and funeral expenses for the deceased.
The initial goal was to raise KSh 10 million, but in an overwhelming show of solidarity, Kenyans managed to gather KSh 19 million within just eight hours of the account’s launch.
Sudi expressed his surprise and admiration for his daughter’s dedication to the cause.
He recounted a conversation with her, where she explained her motivations for joining the protests and contributing to the fundraiser.
“These Gen X kids of mine were eating lunch and going to the protests. One of my daughters told me, ‘Dad, this Gen Z was doing a good thing, but these people came to destroy. I have sent KSh 10,000 to the victims – to those who were injured and the ones who died.’ My own daughter sent me money.”
The politician’s club, Timba XO, was among the properties vandalised during the protests, leaving Sudi heartbroken.
Despite the damage to his establishment, he has chosen not to pursue legal action against the looters.
“I have never looted anyone’s business, and I will leave this to God,” he stated, emphasizing his commitment to non-retaliation.
Sudi’s revelation about his daughter’s involvement underscores the deep generational divide and the passionate activism of Gen Z, who are increasingly stepping up to challenge government policies and advocate for social justice.
The vandalism of Timba XO, while a personal loss for Sudi, highlights the broader unrest and the lengths to which young Kenyans are willing to go to make their voices heard.
As the nation continues to grapple with the aftermath of the protests, the contributions to the M-Changa account stand as a testament to the collective spirit and resilience of Kenyans in times of crisis.
