Cabinet Secretaries from different ministries have recently made leadership changes in various boards. The changes, announced in official government communications, have seen appointments and revocations across several institutions.
Treasury CS John Mbadi canceled the nomination of Stephen Ogenga as a member of the Kenya Accountants and Secretaries Examination Board. The CS did not explain why Ogenga was removed, but he had already served on the board for over three years.
Mbadi reappointed Mercy Kiana to the Insurance Regulatory Authority’s Board of Directors. Kiana will serve another three-year term starting March 7.
Energy and Petroleum CS Opiyo Wandayi has also made leadership changes. He appointed Martha Wanjiru Miano to the Board of Directors of the Kenya Pipeline Company Limited.
The appointment was made under the powers given by the State Corporations Act and the Interpretation and General Provisions Act.
Miano will serve for three years. She had previously been appointed to the Micro and Small Enterprises Authority board on January 31, 2025. As she takes up her new role, Wandayi revoked the appointment of Jane Njeri Mwangi.
Cooperatives and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Development CS Wycliffe Oparanya has also made a board appointment. He named John Wambugu Kihonge to the Board of Directors of the Micro and Small Enterprise Authority.
Lands CS Alice Wahome appointed Ruth Okal to the Land Acquisition Tribunal. This tribunal plays a role in handling disputes related to land acquisitions in the country.
Roads and Transport CS Davis Chirchir made changes at the Kenya Ports Authority. He appointed Wilson Mwai to the Board of Directors for a three-year term. Mwai took over the position after the removal of Caroline Njoki Maina, whose appointment was canceled.
These changes come as part of the government’s restructuring efforts in various sectors. While some officials have been removed without clear explanations, others have been reappointed, showing a mix of continuity and change in board leadership.
