Musalia Mudavadi, the Prime Cabinet Secretary, was noticeably absent when President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Friday, March 7.
The agreement, which was made public during an event at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi, aimed at developing cooperation between the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
The occasion was attended by several political leaders affiliated with both Kenya Kwanza and ODM, marking a significant shift in the country’s political landscape.
Mudavadi did not attend the event because he was at the funeral of the late David Kirinyet, the father of Aurelia Ronoh, the Principal Secretary for the State Department of Parliamentary Affairs.
Despite his absence, he expressed his full support for Ruto’s decision, urging Kenyans to rally behind the president. He emphasized that the collaboration between UDA and ODM was meant to foster national unity and bring the country together.
According to Mudavadi, Ruto’s leadership is centered on progress and concern for the well-being of Kenyans, and he called on citizens to support the president’s initiatives.
He further clarified his political stance, stating that the Amani National Congress (ANC) had already merged with UDA. Mudavadi stressed that his loyalty was now fully with Ruto and that his commitment to UDA was aimed at strengthening the president’s leadership.

To demonstrate his support, he revealed that Ruto had sent Ksh2 million to assist the family of Principal Secretary Aurelia Ronoh during their time of mourning.
Among those present at the signing ceremony were former Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto, Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport Davis Chirchir, and Principal Secretary for Sports Peter Tum. The MoU between Ruto and Raila also included an agreement for a swift audit of Kenya’s national debt, detailing how each loan was utilized.
Additionally, the two leaders proposed new strategies to combat corruption and curb the misuse of public funds, particularly by government officials.
After attending the funeral, Mudavadi later joined Ruto in chairing a Kenya Kwanza Parliamentary Group meeting at State House in Nairobi.
He reiterated that Ruto’s agenda placed the country’s interests above political rivalries and urged lawmakers to focus on the nation’s welfare rather than partisan conflicts.
Mudavadi emphasized the importance of prioritizing Kenya’s stability and progress over political divisions, aligning himself fully with Ruto’s leadership and vision for the country.
