German Presidential Festival To Be Co-Hosted With Kenya, First Ever African Country Chosen

The State Department for Foreign Affairs has announced that Kenya will become the first country on the continent to co-host the Annual Citizen Festival with Germany.

The ministry noted that the German Presidency hosts the event, also known as the ‘Bürgerfest’, every year.

The event celebrates cultural diversity between a Western European country and a partner nation of their choice.

“Kenya was selected as the 2024 feature country on account of solid economic and political relations with Germany spanning for over 60 years,” the ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

“During the Festival, Kenya will market and display its unique culture, including food, music, artifacts, tea, coffee, nuts, and apparels.

“Join us in celebrating this milestone aimed at bridging cultural gaps; fostering understanding; marketing Kenya as a tourist destination and promote trade and investment.”

The festival will take place between September 13 and 14, 2024, at the German President’s residence on Schloss Bellevue in Berlin, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

President William Ruto is expected to attend the event, marking the first time a non-European country has been selected as the festival’s international partner.

According to German press outlets, this year’s festival motto will be ‘Pamoja – Stronger Together’.

Kenya is set to be given a stand in the presidential garden to highlight the country’s cultural diversity.

Stella Mokaya Orina, Kenya’s Ambassador to Germany, and Dr. Sylvie Nantcha, Chairperson of The African of Germany (TANG), have previously urged Africans living in the country to attend the one-of-a-kind event.
