NARC-Kenya leader Martha Karua declared on Thursday that she will take action against President William Ruto for human rights abuses committed during anti-government protests.
Speaking to the press in Nairobi, Karua accused the President of constitutional violations by permitting the abuse of innocent Kenyans during the protests and disregarding court orders.
The former Azimio principal noted that despite recent leadership changes, there has been no shift in governance under Ruto’s administration.
Martha Karua promised to persist in rallying Kenyans against Ruto’s government until the issues raised by the protesters are addressed.
“If the Ruto administration remains unresponsive, we will unite as Kenyans to demand accountability. We are witnessing a rise in impunity,” Karua stated.
She also committed to bringing the President’s actions to the attention of continental and international human rights organizations, including the African Union Commission on Human Rights and the United Nations (UN) Commission on Human Rights.
“Every instance of violence in the pursuit of justice must be addressed. We will lodge formal complaints with the AU Commission on Human Rights, the UN Commission on Human Rights, and other relevant bodies,” Karua declared.
“We will not shy away from highlighting these violations on both the continental and international levels, particularly as the state seems to have returned to its default status,” Martha Karua added.
Karua also criticized the new university funding model, calling it a betrayal to Kenyan students.
She argued that the model hinders students’ access to education and, if implemented without adequate public input, would be both unconstitutional and discriminatory.
“We must reject this new, oppressive university funding model that burdens our students and their families,” Karua emphasized.
