“Poisoned by Wamadimplez” Babu Owino fingers Sakaja over MCA Munuve’s death

In a post on Instagram by MP Babu Owino during the burial of Joel Munuve, the Embakasi East MP shocked mourners by accusing Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja of being involved in the MCA’s death. According to Owino, Munuve was poisoned, and he linked this claim to the findings of a blood clot in Munuve’s lungs. While official results from the autopsy point to death from a blood clot and lack of oxygen, Owino insisted that these could have been caused by poisoning, possibly with organophosphates.

He said that these kinds of poisons are known to cause blood clots, and therefore the possibility of foul play should not be dismissed. Munuve died on April 22, 2025, just days after he had launched efforts to collect signatures to impeach Governor Sakaja. This timing has raised questions, especially since Munuve had been a vocal critic of Sakaja’s government.

He had accused the county administration of mismanaging funds, especially with regard to the “Dishi Na County” school feeding program. Munuve claimed that the program was being used to loot county money and demanded that the governor be held accountable.

Although the medical report pointed to a blood clot and oxygen deficiency, Babu Owino argued that such symptoms could still be the result of deliberate poisoning. He said that toxic substances could have been used to kill Munuve in a way that looked like natural causes.

Governor Sakaja denied having anything to do with the death. In an earlier interview with Citizen TV, he said he welcomed a full investigation and emphasized that Munuve had no known medical conditions that could explain such a sudden death.

He urged political leaders to stop spreading rumors and let the investigation take its course. Sakaja also described Munuve as someone they disagreed with but respected. However, Owino was not convinced. He insisted that the matter needed deeper probing.

He warned against any attempts to cover up the truth, Owino portrayed himself as a defender of justice, saying he would stand with Munuve’s family until they got answers.

This case has created a lot of speculations more especially in Nairobi’s political circles. Many observers believe the issue goes beyond the death itself. They see it as a symbol of how dangerous political life has become, especially for leaders who challenge those in power.

Munuve had taken a bold step by trying to remove Sakaja from office due to what he believed about the governor not suitable for being at the helm of City Hall, and now he is gone under unclear circumstances.
