Samson Cherargei slams Kipchumba Murkomen, calls him incompetent in handling National Security

Kipchumba Murkomen has found himself under fire for his failures as Interior Cabinet Secretary, with even his own allies calling him out. Samson Cherargei, the Nandi senator and a close ally of President William Ruto, has not held back in exposing Murkomen’s incompetence.

The two leaders both come from the Rift Valley and belong to the ruling UDA party, but Cherargei has made it clear that he has lost confidence in Murkomen’s ability to handle national security.

Cherargei’s criticism did not start today. He had already noticed Murkomen’s failure when he was still in charge of roads.

According to Cherargei, the problems Murkomen caused at the Ministry of Roads were bad, but they could be fixed over time. However, his incompetence in the Interior Ministry is leading to loss of lives, something that cannot be reversed.

The senator warned that the security situation in the country is now worse than ever. Banditry in the North Rift has escalated, terrorist attacks are increasing in Turkana and North Eastern Kenya, and even once-peaceful towns like Kapsabet are no longer safe.

He pointed out that someone was killed less than 200 meters from the Kapsabet police headquarters, a clear sign that law enforcement under Murkomen’s leadership has collapsed.

Murkomen’s failures have now forced other senior government officials to step in and do his job. The Head of Public Service, Felix Koskei, had to personally go to the North Rift over the weekend to confront bandits, something that should have been handled by the Interior CS.

This is an embarrassment for Murkomen and a sign that even those within government have lost trust in his leadership.During Kithure Kindiki’s time as Interior CS, insecurity was at least contained.

There was a clear strategy in place to deal with criminal gangs and terrorist threats. But ever since Murkomen took over, things have spiraled out of control.

Machete gangs are freely operating in major towns, terrorists are striking with ease, and the police seem overwhelmed. His lack of experience in security matters is now evident, and Kenyans are paying the price.

Murkomen has been more focused on political survival than on doing his job. Instead of fixing the security mess, he is busy playing politics and trying to protect his image.

The country cannot afford an incompetent Interior CS when lives are at stake. If Murkomen cannot handle the pressure, he should step aside before more lives are lost under his watch.
