Kenya Revenue Authority customs officers at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport have seized 52 refurbished mobile phones and three drones during routine passenger screening.
The interception took place as officers carried out their regular checks on travellers arriving at the airport.
Officials confirmed that the items were found in the possession of passengers and were stopped because they did not meet the required import procedures.
KRA said the action forms part of its ongoing efforts to protect government revenue and make sure that goods entering the country follow the proper rules.
The authority stressed that it remains focused on safeguarding Kenyaโs borders and enforcing import regulations. Officers at JKIA continue to screen passengers and their luggage to detect any goods that may have been brought in without the necessary documentation or payment of duties.
Refurbished mobile phones and drones are among the items that attract close attention at entry points. Customs officials examine such gadgets to confirm whether the correct taxes have been paid and whether the products comply with local standards. In this case, the 52 phones and three drones were held after the screening process raised questions about their status.
KRA has repeated its commitment to supporting legitimate trade while closing gaps that allow undeclared goods to enter the market. The agency works daily to collect the revenue needed for public services and to create a fair environment for businesses that follow the rules.
Passengers are reminded that all goods brought into the country must be declared when required.
Failure to do so can result in the items being detained and further action being taken.
The authority encourages travellers to check the relevant guidelines before arriving so that their journey through the airport remains smooth.
The latest seizure adds to a series of similar interceptions carried out by customs teams at major entry points.
