Fourteen suspects, including three serving police officers and foreign nationals from Nigeria, Cameroon and Sudan, have been arrested in Nairobi after detectives uncovered suspected counterfeit US currency, fake gold bars and materials believed to be linked to the production of fake money.
The arrests were made on Thursday, October 1, 2026, during a raid by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives based at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
The operation targeted a warehouse in the Vision Plaza Industrial Area following a complaint filed by US national Alkhalifi Ibrahim Hassan at JKIA Police Station.
The suspects were identified as Anthony Oyieka Namani, a Nigerian national; Soulemanou, a Cameroonian; Abbas Ibrahim Mohamed, a Sudanese national; George Kinyanjui, Geofrey Omondi Juma, William Kimolo, Solomon Ndeda, Raphael Wayaya, Kevin Barasa, Erick Honla and Maureen Ogany.
Also arrested were three police officers attached to the Security of Government Buildings (SGB) at Uhuru Camp.
They are Corporal Joseph Otenyo Okimba, APC Douglas O. Odira and APC Felix Oyawa Odhiambo.
According to the DCI, two of the police officers were armed with Beretta pistols while another suspect had a Chalbi pistol when the warehouse was searched.
Detectives recovered 31 sealed black pallets from the premises. Three of the pallets contained 156 bundles of US$100 notes suspected to be counterfeit, while the remaining pallets contained cement.
The search also led to the recovery of a plastic box containing 65 pieces of gold bars suspected to be fake. Detectives found another box containing assorted chemicals believed to be intended for the manufacture of counterfeit currency.
A separate box contained papers printed with US dollar notes, further adding to the items being examined as part of the investigation.
Other items seized included a black bag containing 13 bundles of US$100 notes suspected to be counterfeit, assorted aluminium seals and seven cartons of UN blue plastic seals.
Detectives also recovered two Kenya Revenue Authority reflector jackets, two empty suitcases, a green pallet-strapping roll, a padlock cutter and a hacksaw.
The scene was processed by investigators, while all the recovered items were secured as exhibits. Detectives are now working to establish how the materials were obtained and the respective roles of the 14 suspects.
The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
The DCI said further legal action will follow after the inquiry is completed and the evidence against each suspect is assessed.
