How Rigathi Gachagua Orchestrated The Downfall Of Uhuru Kenyatta As Mount Kenya Kingpin

Deputy President and former Mathira Member of Parliament, Honourable Rigathi Gachagua, has revealed the strategic maneuvers behind the downfall of former President Uhuru Kenyatta as the Mount Kenya political leader.

Speaking in a Kiambu church, Gachagua disclosed that the plan was set in motion immediately after the celebrated handshake between Uhuru and Raila Odinga in 2018.

According to Gachagua, the initial meeting to discuss this bold move was held at Honourable Jane Kihara’s house in Naivasha.

It was during this meeting that the group decided to position William Ruto as the presidential candidate for the 2022 general election and to garner support from the Mount Kenya region.

Besides Gachagua and Kihara, the meeting included influential members of Parliament such as Ndindi Nyoro of Kiharu, Kimani Ichung’wa of Kikuyu, Alice Wahome of Kandara, and Moses Kuria of Gatundu South.

Their collective mission was to counteract President Uhuru Kenyatta, whom they believed had deviated from his initial promises.

“We saw that Uhuru had abandoned his pledges, and it became our goal to ensure he did not succeed in his mission,” Gachagua explained.

The group’s efforts culminated in the August 9 election, where Uhuru’s preferred candidate narrowly lost to William Ruto.

In the months following the Naivasha meeting, the coalition of six leaders expanded, recruiting more supporters to challenge what they perceived as state capture and the Kenyatta family’s dominance in the Mount Kenya region.

Their campaign against Uhuru was relentless and strategic, ultimately resulting in a significant political shift.

Gachagua also acknowledged the personal and political risks involved in their endeavor.

“We were ready for the persecution that followed,” he stated, referring to the government’s targeted actions against group members.

Gachagua himself was recently ordered to forfeit KSH 200 million, the source of which he could not explain.

He has appealed the court ruling, attributing his legal troubles to former President Kenyatta’s influence.

The irony of Nakuru being the meeting place for both the 2012 unity agreement between the Kikuyu and Kalenjin communities and the 2018 strategy session against Uhuru was not lost on Gachagua.

The 2012 meeting, which resulted in the formation of the TNA and URP alliance, had once united the two communities under the leadership of the ‘UhuRuto’ duo.

Gachagua’s revelations provide a detailed look into the political machinations that reshaped Mount Kenya’s political scenes, highlighting the intricate and often contentious nature of Kenyan politics.

As the Deputy President, Gachagua now plays a pivotal role in the administration that emerged from these calculated efforts, marking a new chapter in the country’s political narrative.
