Cyprian Nyakundi recently pointed out that the garbage issue could lead to the impeachment of Johnson Sakaja, calling it a big strategic mistake on his part.
Sakaja’s reckless decision to use county resources for petty revenge has not only embarrassed his administration but also exposed his poor leadership and questionable dealings.
This incident adds to the growing list of failures and corruption claims that have defined his time in office. From mismanaging public funds to neglecting essential services, Sakaja has shown that he is not fit to lead Nairobi.
The garbage dumping scandal was not just a random act but a deliberate move by Sakaja’s administration to retaliate against Kenya Power for disconnecting electricity to county offices over a Ksh3 billion unpaid bill.

Instead of addressing the debt issue through proper channels, his government resorted to primitive tactics clamping Kenya Power vehicles, cutting off water supply to their offices, and finally, dumping garbage at their headquarters.
This act was widely condemned, with National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula calling it criminal behavior and demanding action from Inspector General Douglas Kanja.
Wetang’ula made it clear that such lawlessness cannot be tolerated, yet Sakaja has remained defiant, failing to acknowledge the gravity of his actions.

This is not the first time Sakaja has been accused of poor decision-making and corruption. His Dishi na County school feeding program has been surrounded by controversy, with Ksh145 million donated by the French Embassy unaccounted for.
The money was deposited directly into a non-profit organization’s account instead of going through county financial systems, raising serious accountability concerns.
Additionally, parents were expected to contribute Ksh5 per meal, with the county subsidizing Ksh20, yet the county still ended up paying the full Ksh25.
This financial mismanagement has raised suspicions of corruption, but Sakaja has avoided answering tough questions about it.His leadership has also been characterized by arrogance and disregard for accountability.
UDA members have openly criticized him for running a corrupt administration and ignoring concerns from his own party. His attempt to appear tough on corruption by asking the EACC to investigate City Hall is seen as nothing more than a distraction from his own questionable dealings.

Instead of taking real action to clean up his administration, he continues to make empty promises while services in the county deteriorate. Roads remain in poor condition, garbage collection is inconsistent, and businesses struggle under his ineffective governance.
Sakaja’s time in office has become a cycle of scandals, mismanagement, and failed leadership. Nairobians deserve a leader who prioritizes service delivery over petty fights and corruption.
His latest stunt with Kenya Power may have been the final mistake that pushes him closer to impeachment.
The question now is whether he will finally be held accountable or if he will continue to get away with turning Nairobi into a chaotic, lawless city.
