Acting Inspector General Gilbert Masengeli On The Fry Again As Politician’s Family Files An Abductions Petition

Acting Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli is once again caught between a rock and a hard place after petitioners sued him over the disappearance of Wajir Member of County Assembly Yussuf Ahmed.

The victim’s family petitioned the court for orders compelling the police IG and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss, Mohamed Amin, to produce the lawmaker.

Ahmed’s family also demanded that the politician be released and tried in court alongside the two police chiefs.

While filing the case, the MCA’s family accused Masengeli and other police officers of failing to provide information about their loved one’s disappearance.

In the case filed jointly by the victim’s family and the Wajir County Assembly, the petitioners also asked the court to order Masengeli and Amin to ensure the MCA’s safety wherever he is.

The petitioners claim that unless the court steps in and forces the two senior officers to act, they will continue to be concerned about the fate of their loved ones.

Wajir County Assembly Speaker Abdilleh Yussuf commented on the matter, stating that activities at the County Assembly had come to a halt as a result of Ahmed’s abduction.

Yussuf was reportedly kidnapped on September 13 by unknown people while being driven down Enterprise Road in Makadara Sub-County at around 9 p.m.

While detailing his abduction, the family claimed that the assailants stole the victim’s phone to prevent him from communicating.

Following the incident, the taxi driver promptly reported the abduction to the Industrial Area Police Station, and an immediate investigation was initiated.

Efforts to contact the politician, however, have failed, despite police efforts to track him down.

The MCA’s family stated to the press that they had reported the matter to various police stations but had received no information about the lawmaker’s whereabouts.

Meanwhile, the new petition against Masengeli comes just a few days after he was sentenced to six months in prison for contempt of court.
