NEWS IN :Alleged Police who Participated in Demos Alleges What Has Been Happening to Him

An alleged police officer who participated in the protests against the proposed 2024 finance bill has claimed that he is being followed.

In a report shared by a reliable source, the unnamed man stated that he has reached out to the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) for help, fearing for his safety.

Businessman Khalif Kairo took to his social media platforms to confirm this news. In his post, Kairo stated:

“This cop has reached out to me and told me he has been dodging NIS agents ever since he posted this, and they have been trying to kidnap him.

Deputy President @rigathi, please protect this officer and ensure no harm comes to him. He has also reached out to @lawsocietykenya.”

The claim comes amid heightened political tensions and public unrest surrounding the proposed 2024 finance bill.

The officer’s participation in the protests and subsequent allegations of being followed by agents from the National Intelligence Service (NIS) have raised concerns about the lengths to which authorities might go to suppress dissent.

As President William Ruto, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, former Prime Minister and Azimio la Umoja Coalition Presidential candidate Raila Odinga, and Narc party leader Martha Karua have all sent their condolences to the families and friends of those killed during the demonstrations.

The protests, sparked by widespread opposition to the finance bill, have turned violent in some instances, leading to several fatalities and injuries.

The finance bill, which has been a subject of heated debate, proposes several measures that critics argue will disproportionately affect lower-income citizens.

Public outcry against the bill has led to large-scale demonstrations, with protesters demanding its withdrawal and calling for more inclusive economic policies.

The alleged harassment of the police officer underscores the escalating tensions between the government and its citizens.

It raises questions about the treatment of dissenters and the potential misuse of state resources to intimidate or silence those who oppose government policies.

The officer’s decision to reach out to the Law Society of Kenya reflects a growing sense of desperation and a need for legal protection.

As the nation grapples with these developments, the call for justice and accountability grows louder.

Public figures and civil society organizations are urging the government to respect the rights of its citizens, including those within its own ranks, who are calling for change.

The outcome of this situation will likely have significant implications for the country’s political and social landscape.

The involvement of high-profile leaders like President Ruto and Deputy President Gachagua in addressing the aftermath of the protests indicates the seriousness of the situation.

Their public condolences and appeals for peace are attempts to calm a nation on edge. However, the underlying issues that have fueled the protests and led to allegations of harassment against the police officer must be addressed to ensure long-term stability and public trust.

The case of the alleged police officer claiming harassment for participating in protests against the 2024 finance bill highlights the critical intersection of political dissent and state response in Kenya.

The government’s handling of this issue will be closely watched, as it navigates the delicate balance between maintaining order and upholding democratic principles.
