A night operation in Ruai has led to the recovery of suspected bhang worth approximately Ksh.5 million and the arrest of three people, including two Ugandan teenagers and a woman believed to be connected to a drug distribution network.
The operation followed the arrest of two 17-year-old Ugandan nationals, Arrius Waknata and Brian Namuonyo, during a routine police patrol in Kayole. Officers reportedly became suspicious of their behaviour and conducted a search, which led to the discovery of suspected narcotic drugs.
The teenagers were taken to the police station for questioning, where they allegedly provided detectives with information about a facility used to store the drugs.
According to Kayole Sub-County Police Commander Richard K. Siele, the information helped officers trace the suspected storage location in Ruai.
Acting on the intelligence, Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Mr. Obama led a team of police officers to an unmarked residential plot in the area.
The officers raided the house and carried out a search, recovering a large consignment of dry plant material believed to be cannabis sativa.
The recovered material weighed approximately 187 kilograms, with police estimating its street value at Ksh.5 million.
The seizure represents the main recovery in the operation, which investigators are using to establish how the drugs were stored and distributed.
During the raid, officers also arrested 33-year-old Susan Omondi. Investigators believe she is the suspected main dealer behind the distribution ring, although the allegations will be subject to the ongoing investigation and court process.
All three suspects are currently being held in custody as police prepare to present them before court.
The recovered drugs have been secured as exhibits, while samples are expected to be sent to the Government Chemist for forensic analysis to establish their composition.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kayole has continued probing the case, with detectives seeking to identify the source of the narcotics and establish the wider supply chain.
Investigators are also working to determine whether additional individuals were involved in transporting, storing or distributing the drugs.
The arrests and seizure form part of police efforts to disrupt suspected narcotics networks operating within Kayole and surrounding areas. Further details are expected as the investigation progresses and the suspects appear in court.
