Months on the run end as police nab suspect in Nyakio murder case

The arrest of a murder suspect who had been on the run for several months has brought a sense of relief to investigators and the family of the victim.

Detectives from the homicide unit, working closely with officers from Kisii South and Busia, have arrested Ken Kimanthi Gichunuku, also known as “Sultan,” in connection with the brutal killing of Seth Nyakio Njeri.

The case dates back to October 14, 2024, when Nyakio’s lifeless body was discovered inside Blessings Building in Biafra Estate, Thika town.

The discovery shocked residents of the area and raised serious concerns about safety. Police officers who arrived at the scene immediately began investigations to establish what had happened and who could be responsible for the killing.

Early findings showed that the murder was violent, prompting detectives to treat the case with urgency.

Soon after the incident, investigators identified Gichunuku as the main suspect. However, by the time officers moved to arrest him, he had already disappeared. For months, he remained out of sight, moving from place to place in an effort to avoid being traced.

His disappearance did not stop the investigation, as detectives continued to follow leads and gather information from different sources.

During this period, officers relied on forensic evidence and intelligence reports to narrow down his possible movements. The investigation involved cooperation between different police units and regions, showing the importance of teamwork in solving serious crimes.

Each new lead was carefully analyzed, and officers remained patient as they worked to locate the suspect.

Their efforts finally paid off when detectives tracked Gichunuku to Busia town, near the Kenya–Uganda border. Investigators discovered that he had been living quietly and working at a cereal distribution shop.

By taking up this job, he appeared to be trying to blend in with the local community and avoid suspicion. Despite this, the trail left by forensic and intelligence work led officers straight to him.He was arrested without incident and taken into custody.

Police confirmed that he is currently undergoing processing as required by law. He is expected to be arraigned in court, where he will face charges related to the murder of Seth Nyakio Njeri.

Authorities have stated that all procedures will be followed to ensure justice is served.

The arrest marks an important step in a case that has troubled many people for months.

It also sends a strong message that suspects cannot hide forever, even if they manage to stay out of sight for a long time.

For Nyakio’s family and friends, the arrest offers hope that the truth will come out and that the legal process will provide answers.

Police have urged the public to continue cooperating with law enforcement by sharing information that can help solve crimes. Investigators say such support is vital in ensuring that justice is achieved and that communities remain safe.
