Four suspects arrested as police recover narcotics in separate Nairobi operations

Security officers in Nairobi have stepped up efforts to curb the spread of illegal drugs following two successful operations that led to the arrest of four suspects and the recovery of narcotics believed to be meant for sale.

The operations were carried out in different parts of the city after police received information from members of the public and during routine patrols.

The first operation took place in Makadara Sub-County, where officers attached to South B Police Station acted on intelligence shared by residents.

The information pointed to suspicious activities along the Ngong River within the Kayaba slums. Led by the Officer Commanding Station, the officers moved into the area and conducted a targeted raid on a makeshift shanty that had raised concern among locals.

During the search, police recovered drugs suspected to be cannabis sativa. Among the items found were six kilograms of the substance, which officers believe had been packaged and stored for distribution.

In addition, twenty nine rolls of a green plant material, also suspected to be cannabis, were recovered from the same location. The discovery suggested that the shanty may have been used as a storage or preparation point for the illegal trade.

Suspects found at the scene were taken into custody for further questioning. In a separate incident later the same day, another arrest was made in Kasarani Sub-County.

Officers from Kahawa West Police Station were on routine patrol in the Kenyatta Market area when they noticed a suspect behaving in a suspicious manner.

The officers stopped and searched the individual, leading to the recovery of a large number of rolls containing a substance believed to be cannabis sativa.

The suspect was found in possession of one hundred and fifty rolls of the substance, indicating possible involvement in distribution rather than personal use.

In addition to the rolls, officers also recovered three cookies that are believed to have been prepared using cannabis. The suspect was immediately arrested and escorted to the police station.

Following both operations, a total of four suspects were arrested and placed in police custody. The recovered narcotics were secured as exhibits, and the suspects are expected to be arraigned in court after investigations are completed.

Police say the investigations will focus on establishing the source of the drugs and whether the suspects are linked to a wider network operating within Nairobi.

These incidents show the continued efforts by the National Police Service to deal with drug related crimes that affect many communities. Illegal drugs have been linked to insecurity, health problems, and the breakdown of families, especially in densely populated areas.

Police officers say such operations are aimed at protecting young people and residents from the harmful effects of narcotics.

Authorities continue to encourage members of the public to report suspicious activities in their neighborhoods, noting that community support remains a strong tool in the fight against crime.
