Government kicks off nationwide validation for NYOTA grants

The government has announced the commencement of the Physical Validation Exercise for beneficiaries of the NYOTA Business Support Component, which officially takes place today, Friday, 24th October 2025, across all 290 constituency headquarters in Kenya.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Cooperatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Development, the exercise is a critical step in verifying the eligibility of youth who were pre-selected to receive financial grants under the NYOTA Programme a government initiative aimed at empowering young entrepreneurs and promoting small business growth across the country.

The validation process will involve in-person verification of identification documents, confirmation of business ownership or ideas, and authentication of applicant information previously submitted through the online application and aptitude test stages.

Government officials, in collaboration with local administrators and constituency NYOTA committees, will oversee the exercise to ensure fairness and transparency.

Only applicants who successfully complete the physical validation will qualify for the next stage of funding, where each approved beneficiary is expected to receive a KSh 50,000 business support grant to start or expand their enterprises.

Principal Secretary for MSMEs Development, Susan Mang’eni, emphasized that the validation is an essential accountability measure meant to prevent fraud and ensure that the funds reach genuine and deserving youth.

“We are determined to make sure that every shilling allocated under NYOTA directly benefits hardworking young Kenyans. The physical validation will help us confirm identities and business intentions before disbursement,” she stated.

Beneficiaries have been urged to carry their original national identification cards, copies of their application details, and any relevant business documents to their respective constituency headquarters for smooth processing.

The NYOTA Programme, launched under President William Ruto’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), aims to provide financial empowerment and skills training to thousands of Kenyan youth and women involved in small-scale enterprises.

Officials have also cautioned applicants against falling victim to fraudsters claiming to fast-track the process or charge fees for validation. The government reiterated that the entire exercise is free of charge and managed exclusively by authorized personnel.

The completion of the validation exercise marks a major milestone in the rollout of the NYOTA Programme, bringing the country one step closer to its goal of creating sustainable livelihoods and promoting inclusive economic growth through youth-led entrepreneurship.
