Hon. Mosquito arrested as DCI links viral TikTok video to suspected rebel group

A popular TikToker based in Mombasa has found himself in deep trouble after authorities linked him to a controversial video shared widely on social media.

Shedrack Omondi Okindo, known online as Hon. Mosquito, was arrested in Miritini, Mombasa County, after detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations tracked him down.

According to the police, the video he posted on August 1, 2025, was seditious and inciteful. In it, Okindo defended three former security agents who are now under arrest.

The video, which quickly gained attention on TikTok, allegedly carried threats of violence and statements that could incite public disorder. DCI said the contents of the video alarmed the public and prompted quick action from security agencies.

The DCI revealed that a search at Okindo’s residence led to the discovery of two pairs of tactical combat uniforms, three mobile phones, a notebook with writings about applying guerrilla resistance tactics, and documents linked to a group known as the Justice Direction Party.

Okindo is currently in custody and will face charges in court soon.In a related crackdown, detectives also arrested a man believed to be a police officer, Hiram Kimathi, at his house in the Kambakia area of Meru County.

His arrest came just days after a standoff involving his refusal to be transferred to Turkana.

Authorities say Kimathi is part of a group known as Fighting Brutality and Impunity, or FBI, formed by security officers who oppose certain state actions.

The group allegedly includes Jackson Kuria Kimani, also known as Cop Shakur, and former KDF officer Patrick Osoi.Kimathi was brought before the Kahawa West Law Court on Monday, where police requested to detain him longer for investigation.

His legal status as a serving police officer is still unclear. The court approved the request to hold him, just as it had earlier ordered the detention of his co-accused, Cop Shakur and Osoi, for 14 days.

The three are being investigated under the Prevention of Terrorism Act, and police say Kimathi also faces charges for illegal firearm possession.

Osoi, a former KDF soldier who claims to have worked with the United States Army and Kenya’s National Intelligence Service, is believed to be one of the masterminds behind the FBI movement.

He reportedly declared his intention to run for president in 2027 under this movement, which is accused of recruiting both serving and retired officers to challenge what they call illegal state directives.

The DCI says Osoi faces several charges, including preparing to commit a felony, possessing a firearm without proper documentation, and recruiting individuals for terrorism-related activities.

Cop Shakur was arrested at the Kahawa Law Courts while showing support for Osoi during his arraignment.

The court has since directed that all the accused remain in custody as investigations continue. They have denied all the allegations against them.
