How IPOA became the last barrier between Justice and a high-level cover-up

The strongest link between Eliud Lagat and the murder of Albert Ojwang is his communication with the Central Police Station OCS, Talaam.

According to sources mostly alleged by Boniface Mwangi, Lagat was the one who gave the order for Albert to be arrested and tortured, and this torture led to Albert’s death. This wasn’t a mistake or miscommunication. It was a direct command, and that instruction came from Lagat himself.

The shocking part is how the system seems to be working hard to protect him rather than bring him to justice.

The National Intelligence Service, together with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, is reported to have come up with a plan to manipulate the legal process.

They allegedly want the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to hand over Talaam’s phone, which was being held as evidence, to the DCI. The goal here is not for investigations, but to erase the data on that phone.

That phone is believed to hold strong proof of the communication between Lagat and Talaam before and after the murder of Albert Ojwang. If that data is wiped out, there will be no direct evidence linking Lagat to the murder.

This would then mean his juniors, like Talaam, take all the blame while Lagat walks free.To cover up the real reason for wanting the phone, the National Intelligence Service has allegedly planted a story. They want the court to believe that the phone was used to extort money even though it was under IPOA’s control.

This is being used as a trick to convince the court to give the DCI access to the phone. Once that happens, they will have the chance to tamper with the evidence, making sure nothing can trace the murder back to Lagat.

This would make it impossible to prove Lagat’s role in the killing of Albert, allowing him to escape responsibility.Lagat is said to be a key figure in William Ruto’s political survival.

This makes his protection a top priority even if it means shielding a murder suspect. Those protecting him believe that letting him go down could bring down bigger forces around the president. Some insiders say Ruto would rather let the country fall into chaos than allow Lagat to be jailed.

This raises serious concerns about how far those in power are willing to go to protect their own, even when lives are lost.Even more worrying is that the same system seems to be preparing other questionable figures for higher office.

Adamson Bungei, the former Nairobi Regional Police boss, who reportedly gave orders during the Gen Z crackdown, is now Director of Operations at police headquarters. Ruto is said to be eyeing him as a possible future police boss.

The violent scenes witnessed during recent protests where police worked with criminals to attack innocent citizens could not have happened without the approval of Inspector General Douglas Kanja and his operations director Bungei. Their silence and continued presence in office shows just how far the rot goes.

Instead of holding murderers and abusers accountable, the current regime appears to be rewarding them with promotions and power.
