A man believed to be involved in possible terror activities has been arrested by police in Nairobi. According to the National Police Service (NPS), the suspect is 22 years old, but his name has not been made public.
The arrest happened late Tuesday night just after 11 p.m. when officers from Kamukunji Police Station were patrolling the area.
They noticed the man behaving in a strange and suspicious manner, which made them stop him for questioning. His behavior was described as evasive and erratic, raising red flags for the officers on duty.
After stopping him, the officers decided to inspect the bag he was carrying. Upon searching it, they discovered dangerous items that suggested the possibility of a serious plan in progress.
According to the NPS, the man had 21 detonators and 21 packets believed to contain ammonium nitrate, which is a chemical often linked to explosives. In addition to that, they found a five-metre-long electric cable and other items that were not fully listed in the report.
These findings raised immediate concern, especially given the ongoing threat of terrorism in the country and the region.
Police say the suspect was immediately taken into custody and has since been handed over to the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU).
The ATPU will now lead the interrogation and investigation to find out more about the man’s intentions, whether he is working alone or with a group, and what the items in his bag were meant for.

The discovery of such materials in a public space at night adds to the growing fears about hidden threats in urban areas like Nairobi. Authorities have not yet released further details about what they believe the suspect was planning to do, but investigations are said to be ongoing.
The police have urged the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement officers immediately. They noted that the arrest was possible because of the vigilance of officers on routine patrol.
This case has once again highlighted the importance of both public cooperation and the need for regular security patrols to prevent serious threats before they happen. While the full details of the incident are still under investigation, the swift action taken by the officers may have helped prevent a possible disaster.
The authorities are expected to give more updates as the investigation continues.
