Over 20 Kenyan fishermen were killed in a brutal attack at the Todonyang border crossing on Lake Turkana. The attackers, suspected to be heavily armed Dassanech militia from a neighboring country, opened fire indiscriminately on the fishermen, leading to a bloodbath.

Turkana North Member of Parliament Ekwon Nabuin condemned the attack and called on the Ministry of Interior to act swiftly. He described the situation as extremely severe and demanded immediate security reinforcement to protect the residents of Todonyang.
He referred to the incident as a massacre and warned that the region remains vulnerable to further attacks if security agencies do not act fast.
The MP expressed his concern that the attackers had managed to carry out such a large-scale assault on Kenyan soil without immediate intervention.
He emphasized that the area is occupied by well-armed militias and urged Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to take responsibility for the security of Kenyan citizens. His statement highlighted growing frustrations among local leaders over the persistent insecurity in the border region.
The attack occurred on Saturday evening along the River Omo in Lopeimukat and Natira, areas that have long been hotspots for cross-border tensions.
The region has experienced frequent clashes between Kenyan communities and their Ethiopian counterparts, often fueled by competition for resources such as fish, water, and grazing land.
Despite previous government efforts to curb the violence, the latest attack shows that insecurity remains a major challenge.
Residents of Todonyang and the larger Turkana region are now living in fear, uncertain about their safety. Many have called for the government to deploy additional security forces to prevent further bloodshed.
