MassHouse, a popular bar and events venue at Ngong Racecourse, is once again in the spotlight, but this time for a tragic reason.
Last weekend, a young man lost his life in the club under circumstances that remain unclear. Mathew Wandati, a student from Strathmore University, was strangled to death, yet the only response from the club has been the usual empty statement: “investigations are ongoing.” No accountability. No answers.

His death has left many questioning the safety of entertainment venues in Nairobi. How does a young man go to a club for a night out and never return home? How does such a brutal act happen in a place full of people, yet no one seems to know exactly what happened?
These are the questions that demand urgent answers, but MassHouse has chosen silence instead of responsibility. This is not the first time a nightclub has been linked to a suspicious death.
Nairobi’s nightlife has become increasingly dangerous, with reports of drugging, violence, and even deaths becoming more common. Yet, clubs continue operating without proper security measures or consequences for their negligence.
They focus on profits while ignoring the safety of the people who keep their businesses running. Mathew Wandati’s life mattered.
He was not just another statistic. He was a student with dreams, a young man with a future. But now, his family and friends are left in pain, demanding justice while those responsible remain hidden.
The fact that MassHouse has not taken full accountability shows the deep rot in the entertainment industry. When a customer dies on their premises, the least they can do is cooperate fully with investigations and assure the public of improved security.
Instead, they act as if nothing serious happened. The authorities must step up and take action. This cannot be another case that fades away after a few days of public outrage.
Investigations must be thorough, and those responsible must face justice. If there were security lapses, if staff members were involved, or if there was an attempt to cover up the incident, all of it must be exposed.

The days of clubs operating recklessly while endangering lives must come to an end. Nairobi’s nightlife needs urgent reform. Clubs like MassHouse must be forced to take responsibility for what happens within their premises.
No more excuses. No more “investigations ongoing” with no real outcomes. Mathew Wandati deserves justice, and we must demand it. His life was cut short, but his story must not be forgotten. Rest in power, Mathew.
