Starehe Member of Parliament Amos Mwago vowed on Tuesday to bring an impeachment resolution against National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula if he does not resign.
Mwago claimed that Wetangula had casually manned the crucial leadership docket. He accused Wetangula of instigating huge public disturbance, including the 2024 Finance Bill, which sparked widespread strikes.
The member said that, following a High Court verdict that declared Wetang’ula’s dual function as Speaker and Leader of Ford Kenya unlawful, he is still unqualified to lead the House.

“He has made very many wrong decisions and shows a character of incompetence,” Mwago noted.
“For the sake of this nation, I thought it would be wise of him to retire hounourably and own up the mistakes.” He further stated that if Wetangula fails to honor the quitting option, legal action will be taken to remove him from office.
“We are magnanimous enough to give him the most respectful options but going forward we are not going to the dogs because of a few people with some personal interests,” Mwago added.
“We are going to take all means that are available to us including tabling an impeachment motion against him.”
In the verdict, a three-judge bench declared Wetang’ula in flagrant breach of the Constitution, claiming that he should have resigned as Party Leader upon becoming Speaker.
The court also determined that the Speaker violated the law by designating the Kenya Kwanza coalition, led by President William Ruto, as the majority in Parliament.

The court ruled that the Speaker had no justifiable grounds for the reassignments and overturned the decision to grant Kenya Kwanza the majority status.
Wetangula noted that the court’s decision just overturned his previous instruction and did not declare any faction to be the majority in Parliament.
