“You are now overstepping” Mudavadi lashes out at Kalonzo for dragging Ruto into DR Congo crisis

Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Affairs Minister Musalia Mudavadi has strongly responded to Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka over his criticism of President William Ruto regarding the ongoing violence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

Mudavadi dismissed Kalonzo’s remarks as reckless, saying they were misleading and politically motivated. He insisted that Kenya’s leadership had no role in the worsening situation in the DRC and accused Kalonzo of using the crisis to attack Ruto unfairly.

Kalonzo had blamed Ruto for removing former President Uhuru Kenyatta from his role as the chief mediator in the DRC peace talks.

He claimed that Uhuru’s exit made things worse and suggested that Ruto had failed to support his predecessor in handling the crisis. Kalonzo further argued that if Ruto could not effectively manage Kenya’s internal challenges, he was in no position to help resolve the conflict in the DRC.

His comments sparked a heated debate, with some opposition leaders agreeing with him, while others dismissed his views as political rhetoric.

Mudavadi, however, defended Ruto and questioned Kalonzo’s understanding of regional politics. He reminded Kalonzo that the DRC’s problems were deep-rooted and could not be blamed on a single leader or country.

Mudavadi pointed out that Kalonzo himself had served as Kenya’s Foreign Affairs Minister for years and should know that solving conflicts in the region requires collective efforts, not finger-pointing.

He further stated that Kenya had continued to play a key role in peace negotiations and that blaming Ruto for the crisis was not only unfair but also misleading to the public.

The exchange between the two leaders comes at a time when tensions in the DRC are escalating, raising concerns across the region.

The East African Community (EAC) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) have scheduled an important summit in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, to discuss the situation.

Several African leaders, including Ruto, will attend the meeting to explore solutions for the ongoing violence. The summit aims to bring together key stakeholders to find ways of stopping the conflict and ensuring stability in the DRC.

It remains clear that the crisis in the DRC is complex and cannot be resolved overnight. The violence has been fueled by years of political instability, ethnic conflicts, and the presence of armed groups.

While leaders like Kalonzo argue that Uhuru’s mediation was key to progress, others believe that new approaches are needed.

The upcoming summit will be a crucial test for regional leaders as they seek to address the worsening security situation in the DRC.
