An autopsy conducted on Molo-based activist Richard Otieno, known as the ‘Molo President,’ has confirmed that he died due to severe head injuries inflicted with a sharp object.
Government pathologist Johansen Oduor revealed that Otieno’s skull was smashed open, with multiple slash wounds to both the back and front of his head.
The injuries caused a fractured skull, extensive brain bleeding, and facial bruises. The findings suggest that the weapon used was likely a panga or axe.
Otieno, a fearless activist and vocal critic of Molo MP Kuria Kimani and the government, met his death near his home on January 18.
The attack occurred only 200 meters from Elburgon police station, raising serious questions about security in the area.
His wife disclosed that Otieno had been receiving threats from unknown individuals who appeared to be trailing him.
She linked the threats to his activism and confrontations with local politicians over issues affecting the community.
The activist was well-known for standing up against corruption, misuse of public funds, and unfulfilled promises by leaders in Molo.
His outspokenness earned him a following among locals, but it also put him in conflict with powerful figures in the area.
His brutal murder has sparked widespread outrage, with residents taking to the streets to demand justice.
Protesters blocked roads and paraded his body through the streets of Molo, accusing authorities of failing to protect him despite the threats he had reported.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has since launched investigations into the murder.
Two politicians and several witnesses are expected to be questioned to uncover the circumstances surrounding his death.
However, many residents have expressed skepticism about whether justice will be served, given the slow pace of investigations and the influence wielded by those Otieno criticized.
Otieno’s death has once again highlighted the dangers faced by activists and whistleblowers in Kenya.
His case is a stark reminder of the price many pay for standing up to injustice and corruption.
Local and international human rights organizations have called on authorities to ensure a thorough and transparent investigation, holding all those involved accountable.
The tragic death of Richard Otieno has not only left a family mourning but has also fueled anger and frustration among Molo residents.
Many are now calling for increased protection for activists and a crackdown on political intimidation.
The public is watching closely, demanding justice for a man who dedicated his life to fighting for the rights of his community.
