On December 19, President William Ruto nominated Kinyanjui to take over the Trade docket, replacing Salim Mvurya, who was reassigned to Sports.
Others selected alongside him include ex-Kiambu Governor William Kabogo (ICT and Digital Economy) and former Health CS Mutahi Kagwe to run the Agriculture ministry.
However, the two have now expressed gratitude to the president for considering them for government positions.
Despite the announcement, Kinyanjui stayed silent, generating extensive speculation, including reports on social media that he had declined the role.
He added: “As always, integrity, respect for the Constitution, and honesty shall guide my way.”The nominees are scheduled to come before the National Assembly’s Appointments Committee on January 14 for vetting.
According to a schedule given by parliament, Kagwe will be grilled first, followed by Kabogo and then Kinjanjui.
It will start at 12 pm and end at 7 pm, with each nominee receiving two hours.Kenyans submitted memoranda on any of the nominees before January 3.
“The Clerk of the National Assembly hereby invites members of the public to submit any representations they may have, by way of written statements on oath (affidavits), with supporting evidence, contesting the suitability of the candidates for appointment to the offices to which they have been nominated,” part of the statement by National Assembly Clerk Samuel Njoroge read.
