However, leaders close to Uhuru, led by Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni, have dismissed rumors of a political alliance between the previous and present Presidents.
According to reports, Uhuru was to be given four Cabinet positions, including the vacant Interior Ministry.
“On the issue of whether or not Uhuru is going to second experts like ODM (Orange Democratic Movement) that is not his style,” Kioni noted.
“He believes and he would like to see a vibrant opposition because a vibrant opposition enables our democratic space to grow.”
“He (Uhuru) does not believe in swallowing, he does believe in getting people into government in that manner,” he added.
Kioni noted that Uhuru’s meeting with Ruto should not be interpreted as a sign of a coming partnership.
He said that during his time as Head of State, Uhuru routinely consulted with leaders outside of government.
“Uhuru is saying that consulting me is not co-opting me into the government,” he asserted.
“Remember he (Uhuru) consulted Raila many times when we had the Jubilee government but he never crafted him into government.
“He never appointed them (Raila’s allies) into government. But he was consulting the opposition to get things done like the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI),” he added.
Many Kenyans and political watchers remarked that, despite the two describing the visit as a ‘conversation on subjects of national and regional importance,’ there was a hidden objective at work: a collaboration.
According to emerging sources, Uhuru was prepared to join the battle and form a ‘super broad-based government’ following Raila Odinga, with his loyalists joining Ruto’s government.
This was all viewed as part of the strategy for the 2027 general elections.
Despite this, leaders close to impeached former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua have voiced shock and dissatisfaction with the Ichaweri summit.
They described the meeting as Ruto’s attempt to reclaim the Mt. Kenya area, which is now embroiled in political instability.
Embakasi North MP James Gakuya has stated that notwithstanding the Monday meeting, the position of the ‘mountain’ will not change and that Ruto’s efforts to pacify Mt. Kenya will be unsuccessful.
“There is no single element of a diversion that will move Mt. Kenya from where it stands today,” he warned.
“I want to tell my good friend Uhuru, who I respect very much, that we respect you and that you should retain your respect. Do not taint yourself. You know the bitterness from Mt. Kenya.”
All of this comes after former Moses Kuria issued a statement on December 10 calling Ruto, Uhuru, and Raila to unite and lead the country toward a new Constitution.
