Impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is once again on the receiving end, as Kenya Kwanza leaders resumed where they left off on Saturday before his impeachment motion was tabled in parliament.
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah launched a campaign against him, accusing him of inciting division in the country through regional and tribal politics.
Speaking at the burial of Tharaka Member of Parliament George Murugara’s mother in Tharaka Nithi County, the leaders hinted that Deputy President Nominee Prof. Kithure Kindiki would be sworn in next week.
“Huko kwetu tuko na Mt. Elgon… sisi watu wa Mount Elgon hatujawahi sema tunatoka kwa murima,” said Wetangula.
“Kuna watu walisema mlima ikiguswa italipuka. Imelipuka?
The mountain belongs to all the people of Kenya. Hii mlima ni yetu wote… tusiwe na viongozi wa kuwagawanya Wakenya kwa misingi ya kikabila,” Ichung’wah added.
The leaders claimed Gachagua orchestrated his downfall by betraying his boss, President William Ruto.
“In life, there is only one currency in politics, and it is called loyalty. Loyalty to your course, people, boss, and what you stand for,” added Wetangula.
Ichung’wah stated, “Tusiwe na viongozi wa kuwagawanya Wakenya kwa misingi ya kikabila.”
Some members, bordering on recklessness, hinted that Prof. Kindiki could be sworn in as Deputy President next week.
This is despite the fact that the matter is in court and has yet to be argued by the parties involved, as it is still in the preliminary stages of litigation.
“Mungu akitujalia next week wekeni sherehe tayari, mimi niko na habari, kutoka Wednesday, Thursday, Friday,” said Tharaka Nithi Senator Mwenda Gataya.
Wetangula added, “Kindiki is my student in politics, and he understands and appreciates that currency.”
On his part, Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki said, “Wale watu wako na wasiwasi ati kuna kitu itafanyika kortini nataka ulale unono kwa sababu sheria inasema status quo remains. The President of Kenya appointed Kindiki as DP.”
